Affogatos are the perfect afternoon dessert and pick-me-up all in one! An affagato is an italian coffee dessert. It is traditionally prepared with a scoop of plain vanilla ice cream and topped off with a shot of espresso. A taste of Italy can easily be brought to your home with only two ingredients!
Chamberlain Coffee was nice enough to send me some coffee beans and blends to try out, and when I saw the Fancy Mouse Espresso Blend, I knew I had to make affagatos.
I don’t own an espresso machine, so I make my coffee on the stovetop using a moka pot. From my understanding, moka pots do not brew true espresso, but they produce coffee that’s about as close to espresso as you can get without an actual machine. Here are some of my favorite moka pots:
One day, when I have an actual espresso machine, I’ll be able to enjoy these affogatos to their fullest extent, but for now, my moka pot creations will do! Enjoy 🙂
Easy Homemade Moka Pot Affogatos
Equipment
- Moka pot or alternative coffee maker
- Ice cream scoop
Ingredients
- 2 scoops Vanilla ice cream
- 2 shots Espresso (sub 1 cup of coffee)
- Chocolate shavings (optional)
- Flaky sea salt (optional)
Instructions
- Brew espresso using a moka pot on your stovetop or use an alternative coffee machine.
- Add 2 scoops (or more) of ice cream to your favorite fancy glass.
- Carefully pour fresh, hot coffee over it, and top with some chocolate shavings and flaky salt.
